Philosophy

Work Like a Mother assists mothers through a cutting edge, solution-oriented counseling and coaching process, including:

  • Intense personal introspection
  • Standardized career inventories and interpretation
  • Professional Counseling
  • Peer Collaboration

All of these help mothers embark on a journey leading to a new sense of professional identity and of self confidence.

Moms don't "return to work." Not by a long shot. Rather, a woman will embrace a new stage in her career development which incorporates both professional and family activities.  This looks nothing like the career of the professional that she may have been back in her 20's, so already she is off the hook.  This work is done through the clearly understood lens and reality of stay-at-home motherhood. Mothers do not always return to the profession they may have left behind, in fact many do not. Rather they incorporate decades of life experience, work history, educational knowedge, skills, interests, passions and values... then package all of these into meaningful and attainable life goals.

Tips

· Have a sense of humor about yourself.

   · There is nothing glamorous
about incorporating
professional activities into
a full-time job as a mom.

· Be prepared to feel
overwhelmed . . . in a good,
exciting and challenging way.

· Perfection is out of the question, so part with this idea right from
the start.

· Get started now, whether you intend to work outside the home in 6 months or 6 years. You'll benefit from the fuel you get from owning this part of yourself.

· This process is not a straight,
predictable road.  Rather it
is filled with interesting,
unexpected turns and bumps,
often ending up in an
unexpectedly wonderful place.

· The prime obstacle is your
self confidence. Focus on
building yourself back up.

· Again, have a sense of
humor about yourself!
